STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Undergraduate Nursing Student Association (USNA):
USNA is the school chapter of its parent associations National Student Nurse's Association (NSNA) and the Ohio Nursing Student's Association (ONSA). Each class in the BSN Program elects officers to represent their class. The student body as a whole also elects an Executive Board of officers that coordinates the overall duties of the organization. USNA organizes social events such as the Nursing Formal and Senior Tribute. They also organize community outreach events such as blood drives, food drives, and clothing collections. USNA officers and members send delegates and other representatives to state and national meetings of ONSA and NSNA to represent Case Western Reserve University's voice on issues of importance to nursing and nursing students. USNA members often are elected positions on the OSNA and NSNA boards of directors. Active members of USNA learn valuable lessons in leadership and begin developing friendships and professional networks that will last a lifetime.

Graduate Student Nurses Association (GSNA):
The purpose of the Graduate Student Nurses Association (GSNA) is to provide a student organization through which matters pertaining to the whole body of graduate nursing students may be transacted, create opportunities for the development of individual responsibility and leadership; aid in creating loyalty to the school and profession; and provide for understanding and cooperation between faculty and students. All DNP and MSN students are members of GSNA by virtue of enrollment. The executive officers, elected yearly, include: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Sr. Rita McNulty is the faculty advisor who has been appointed to work with GSNA. For more information, please contact Sr. Rita McNulty.

Alpha Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) - Honor Society of Nursing:
Sigma Theta Tau is the International Honor Society of Nursing, with 424 chapters world wide. The Alpha Mu chapter of Case Western Reserve University is very active and boasts a recent past president of STTI. Membership is by invitation to those students who meet the Honor Society's academic standards. An induction into the Alpha Mu chapter typically takes place at a formal ceremony in the Spring of each year. Opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and research are readily available to members both locally and internationally. Please contact Chris Hudak, Chapter Coordinator for more information.

Ph.D. Nursing Association:
The PhD Nursing Association's purpose is to facilitate fulfillment of needs particular to the PhD student group which arise out of its unique relationship with the School of Graduate Studies and the School of Nursing. These needs include: 1) socialization into the research role; 2) acknowledgement, support, and networking for scholarly productivity; 3) communication; and 4) representation to the PhD Council regarding programmatic issues. Please contact Kimberly Johnson for more information.
