Students with Disabilities
Case Western Reserve University is committed to meeting the needs of students whose learning would benefit from educational support. All course syllabi should include the a statement similar to the following:
Educational Support:
The course faculty is available to meet to discuss requests for academic accommodations after the student has registered with the Office of Disability Resources (ESS, Sears 470). Accommodations cannot be provided retroactively.
Who:
-
We strongly urge any student who has had disability accommodations prescribed in the past or believes they might benefit from accommodations to meet with the Coordinator of Disability Services at the earliest date possible.
-
Remember, you will be studying a new discipline requiring a variety of learning and evaluation experiences in a fast-paced curriculum.
-
Having a letter from ESS gives you the option of requesting accommodations. The decision is up to you.
-
If you wait to contact ESS until after you are in the midst of the semester, you are likely to find they have an extended waitlist.
How:
-
Students must present documentation from the Office of Disability Services to course faculty to receive accommodations.
-
Faculty may not approve accommodations without a letter from the Office of Disability Services.
-
Schedule an appointment with the Coordinator of Disability Services (located in the Educational Support Services Office) - Phone: 368-5230.
-
For detailed information about Disability Services, visit their website.
When:
-
If you believe it would be helpful to meet with ESS, make an appointment as soon as possible.
-
Don’t wait until it is time to take an exam!
-
The office’s calendar fills quickly at the beginning of the semester.
