MESSAGE FROM DEAN MAY L. WYKLE

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, one of the top ranked schools in the nation. The School is named for Frances Payne Bolton, who endowed the school in 1923 and was the first elected congresswoman from the state of Ohio. Her work in government helped to bring about the creation of the Cadet Nurse Corps and other national nursing programs. We are proud to carry on her legacy as we continue to educate nurses who affect the health policies of today and tomorrow.

Now, more than ever, opportunities abound for nurses. As the health field continues to expand along with technology and an aging population, nurses are in demand like they have never been before. There is not only a need for more nurses; there is also a need for qualified, experienced nurses and nurse educators.

From clinical specialists to nurse practitioners, teachers, and researchers, Bolton School graduates assume professional roles in a variety of specialties. Many nursing students even become entrepreneurs. Graduates of the Bolton School often acquire leadership positions because of the strong background they receive while they are students here.

We encourage you to explore our website to learn about the academic degree programs we offer. The "New Face of Nursing" is here--from traditional roles in clinical settings to flight nursing, infection control, consulting, policy setting, business, research, and education. In addition, our Centers of Excellence, clinical experience in the country's top ranked hospitals, and community engagement enrich the educational experience to produce “The Best CASE Scenario” for nursing education.

As an alumna myself, I can personally tell you that the Bolton School provides a nurturing environment, a quality education, and supportive alumni. We are a leader in global health. Our graduates serve in various professional nursing positions in over 25 countries and the Bolton School houses one of only 12 World Health Organization Collaborating Centers in the country.

As dean, I'm planning to preserve the long-standing, time-honored traditions and values of this school, while at the same time preparing the nurses of tomorrow for ever-changing health care needs. The culture of innovation and impact remain intact. We are a home to many firsts, and today we offer many specialty programs unique to the Bolton School. A nationally recognized leader in the development of nursing science, the Bolton School is an institution we are all proud to call our own.

May L. Wykle, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, FGSA
