Hello All,
I wanted to make sure you are all informed that there will be a major network outage May 30 – June 1st. This is due to the Kelvin Smith Library Data Center will be brought down for a power upgrade. The Data Center is where all the University’s major computer servers reside. The outage will affect e-mail, voice mail, PeopleSoft applications, Blackboard, and many other major network services that the University provides. Additional details and information will be provided in the next few weeks about what services will remain up during the power outage. Other than VoIP telephone service and access to the Internet, assume that all major network services will NOT be available during many hours that weekend. The KSL Library will be closed from 5:00 Friday afternoon through 9 a.m. Monday morning. Again, these times have not been finalized; when they are, we will distribute that information. Announcements will be forthcoming from ITS in the Case Daily and a website regarding the outage is being created.
Please be prepared regarding email and data needed from our Nursing School servers. If you are expecting important emails during this time and you have another email account such as yahoo or hotmail, you may want to re-direct people to send them there for that weekend. During the outage, please be aware that email will not get through to the University, they will bounce back to the sender, if sent to your case email address. If you have data stored on our servers, you can save the files that you need to work on to your hard drive or a jump drive and work on them that way. We are not sure if we will have access to our servers, so just in case we don’t, you will be able to continue to work.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Lev Gonick, VP of IT, informed us that there is no “good” time to do an upgrade like this, but the was the only time he could get all the vendors and contractors together to perform this huge task. He apologizes in advance for any inconveniences this may cause.
Thanks,
Caron Baldwin, MCSE
